Minor

To do a minor in another program, you need to:

  • take the CHOICE (1st year) module from your intended minor program, and,
  • replace any one CORE (2nd year) module from your major by a CORE module in your minor program. Which CORE module from your major program you choose to replace is entirely up to you. Typically, you would need to select your CORE modules — and hence declare your intention to do a minor — in your second semester, when asked to do so by the registrar’s office.

This page provides further information for IMS students doing a minor in another program or students from other majors wanting to do a minor in IMS.

  • For IMS students wishing to do a minor in another program: We list below some typical choices:
    • Computer Science: You can choose any module you like, but we would recommend either CO19-ApplCS or CO20-TechCS.
    • Electrical and Computer Engineering: You can choose any module you like. Note that the Electronics lecture and lab from ECE module CO26-ElectroNoise will also be available to you as specialization courses in your 6th semester.
    • Industrial Engineering & Management:
      • If an IMS student wants to pursue a minor in IEM by taking the module CO29-ProcessEng, then he/she must take CO22-IntelSys and CO23-AutoControl from IMS but cannot take CO24-PlantOpt.
      • If an IMS student wants to pursue a minor in IEM by taking either CO30-ProductEng or CO28-FinProjMan, he/she can select any two CORE modules from IMS.
  • For students of other majors wishing to do a minor in IMS:
    • Computer Science: You can select any one of the IMS CORE modules, but CO22-IntelSys is recommended.
